Most Expensive Gifts

We’ve trawled Net-A-Porter and Mr Porter to find the most covetable, exclusive and big-ticket gifts out there. One can always dream…

Everyone has one: the person in their life who seems to have every conceivable thing they could ever possibly want. Or so we thought. It turns out, though, that there are always more jaw-droppingly expensive gifts out there to lust after – it’s just a case of knowing where to look. We trawled net-A-Porter and Mr Porter to take the backbreaking work out of it (you’re welcome) and this is our pick, whether you’re dreaming like us, or actually in the market to buy. Happy drooling.

Net-A-Porter: Six Of The Best

David Morris

18-Karat White Gold Diamond Necklace, £205,000

Glistening with VS diamonds, this beauty is handcrafted from 18-karat white gold. Now to secure an invitation to a glittering event worthy of such a bauble. The Oscars, anyone?

Erdem

Embellished Off-The-Shoulder Silk-Chiffon Gown, £14,995

Looking for a gown to go with your eye-wateringly expensive necklace? Try this knock-out rose-embellished number by Erdem. So good, in fact, that it has the A-list seal of approval, as demonstrated by Rosamund Pike who wore it to the Governors Awards.

Bottega Veneta

Canalazzo Striped Intrecciato Leather Pumps, £2,870

These leather pumps from the Italian powerhouse are truly shoes to fall in love with. Woven from leather using the house's celebrated intrecciato technique and patterned with candy cane-inspired stripes, the curved heel creates an offbeat shape that ensures the silhouette hits both the cool and sweet notes – no mean feat.

Bottega Veneta

Sardine Small Leather-Trimmed Raffia Tote, £6,720

Another big-ticket beauty from Bottega Veneta, this raffia woven bag is beautifully crafted and shaped – and features a handle moulded to look like sculptural sardine. Frankly, we find we want nothing more from a bag.

Gabriela Hearst

Lauren Fringed Cashmere Wrap, £3,135

Hand-knitted in Hearst’s native Uruguay, were this sublimely soft cashmere wrap ours, we would not take it off from October through to the end of February, so unutterably cosy is it. We might, then, actually end up owing it money (skewed fashion logic?).

MAD

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Limited Edition Automatic 37mm DLC-Coated Stainless Steel Watch, £97,300

The 1972 Royal Oak is not simply a watch – it is a trailblazer, having pushed the boundaries of watchmaking for the whole industry. Featuring a rose quartz dial and some 40 jewels, it is another sleek demonstration of why the Swiss are the best in the world when it comes to watchmaking.

David Webb

Double Crescent 18-Karat Gold, Platinum, Turquoise And Diamond Clip Earrings, £55,755

We love these sculptural beauties, which are part of David Webb’s Crescent series, featuring a different phase of the moon and hammered in 18-karat gold. The pop of turquoise simply makes them sing.

Mr Porter: Six Of The Best

Brunello Cucinelli

Double-Breasted Shearling Peacoat, £9,900

This masterpiece of a pea coat features expertly tanned lambskin and a thick shearling collar. Cosy, warm and extremely chic, it was crafted in Solomeo, Italy, and would look highly dashing wafting around the Perugian countryside, sunglasses firmly in place for added mystery.

Bottega Veneta

Leather Boots, £2,930

If you have deep pockets and you know a man who prefers his classic Chelsea boots to be textural and super solid, then this pair, with their chunky lug soles, fit the bill very nicely.

Gerald Charles

+ Octavio Garcia Maestro 8.0 Squelette Limited Edition

A Gerald Charles collaboration with legendary watch designer Octavio Garcia, the impressive 'Maestro 8.0 Squelette' has been produced in a limited edition run of 100 and is the result of hundreds of hand-drawn designs. As swish (and Swiss) as it gets.

Berlutti

Formula 1005 Scritto Venezia Softy Leather Suitcase, £6,650

If the lucky man you are buying for is a seasoned traveller, then allow this to be the Christmas that he ups his luggage game. Made in Italy from signature Venezia Softy leather, it has been embossed with the brand’s hand-calligraphed iconic lettering. What’s more, it’s perfect for carry-on luggage, so no loitering by baggage carousels.

Loro Piana

Wood Skis, £6,745

If you love to ski but lament the demise of the classic aesthetic of yesteryear, then look no further than these elegant skis from Loro Piana, which are made from lightweight wood and perform just as well as they look. Exactly the thing.

Shay

Blackened Gold Sapphire Chain Bracelet, £18,060

For the man who likes a hint of bling but still likes to keep things cool, this chain bracelet is encrusted with brilliant blue sapphires set within blackened gold for that all-important edge. Subtle bling: a whole new category for Christmas 2024.
